Legal Deposits
National libraries worldwide are entrusted with preserving the intellectual and cultural outputs of their nations for future generations. At the Kenya National Library Service (KNLS), we proudly uphold this responsibility through the legal deposit system.
What is a Legal Deposit?
The Books and Newspapers Act, Cap 111 (1987) mandates every publisher in Kenya to submit two copies of each newly published title to KNLS within 14 days of publication This includes:
- Books
- Journals
- Sheet music
- Maps, plans, charts, or tables
- Maktaba Kuu in Upper Hill
- Buruburu Library
- Nakuru Library
- Preservation for Posterity: Secure your work as part of Kenya’s national archive.
- Contributing to National Documentary Heritage: Your publications reflect the nation’s intellectual achievements.
- Enhanced Accessibility: Make your work available to researchers, libraries, and the public.
